Exclusive Shore Event: May 26, Jun 1 & Sep 15, 2009 - Half Day Shore Experience in Juneau
At the base of grand mountain peaks and at the pristine waterfront of the Gastineau Channel is Juneau, Alaska's "Peak Experience." Located in Southeast Alaska, the Tongass Rainforest climate provides Juneau with lush terrain and vibrant wildflowers. Tlingit and Haida Indians were the first settlers to the area. Later settlers were miners lured by Alaska's gold rush and Russian fur traders. Juneau offers something for everyone and is Alaska as you can only imagine - scenery that lures, adventure that inspires, and heritage that fascinates.
Our day begins with a drive through downtown Juneau; highlighting the citys brilliant sights. This journey will lead us to our main destinations of Glacier Gardens Rainforest and Mendenhall Glacier, for an insiders view of Juneau. Upon arrival we will be greeted by a staff member who will escort us through the colorful lower garden which includes amazingly designed landscapes and a cascading stream. Next, join our guide aboard a covered shuttle for a mile-long narrated journey into the heart of the rainforest and gardens. Long daylight hours provide stunning garden displays and breathtaking views of the Mendenhall Valley and Chilkat Mountains. Light snacks and beverages will be served at the Glacier Gardens Greenhouse.
Afterward, we will venture to Mendenhall Glacier- Juneaus star attraction. This massive river of compressed blue ice ranks as the largest, most rugged glacier accessible by road. Staff from the U.S. Forest Service at Mendenhalls Glacier will offer information. Great vantage points to take photos of the world-famous sight are not to be missed. Our morning concludes with a scenic drive past the University of Alaska Southeast campus and Auke Lake en-route back to downtown Juneau.

Suggested Attire: Casual wear that is warm (we suggest dressing in layers) with a rainproof jacket and comfortable shoes. Light to moderate walking.
